Assalamu alaikum warah matullahi wa barakatuhu! May the peace and blessings of The Almighty be upon us all. (This Might Be My Last Eid In Kuwait – An OFW Story).
I would like to greet everyone a blessed and joyful EID! To all the Muslims, may our du’as and prayers have been accepted and our good deeds have been received.
As a Muslim, It is sad to say goodbye to a lovely friend who just visits us once a year – Ramadhan – for I am not certain if I could be able to see this friend again next year. It somehow makes my heart a little anxious yet grateful and overwhelmed for I know I am so blessed to have hugged this friend again, this year.
It’s my fourth year celebrating Ramadhan and my last Eid in Kuwait now. And as Ramadhan leaves, I am also saying goodbye to this beautiful place I’m already inloved with.
This Eid 2020 (my last Eid in Kuwait), might be my last glance of Kuwait’s gorgeous towers, beautiful sunsets, amazing humans, tasteful kubos, delicious laban. This might be my last eid prayer, my last to hear takbeer, my last salams to my dearest friends, my last sujood – in this land so beautiful. And this writing might be the last and final sweet memory I would keep for the rest of my life.
To a new beginning
I am ought to depart this land as I am only a stranger here. Though I’m leaving, Kuwait will forever be in my heart – something that I can brag about to my kids when I have one so soon. My four years seeking fortune in this place have been a part of my beautiful memories as an expat.
Though it was a rough ride, it taught me countless lessons that mold me who I am today. I could say I become a better person, a better friend, a better employee, a better expat, a better citizen, a better brother, a better son, a better husband, a better Muslim, a better me.
It’s in my fours here in Kuwait that I realized how beautiful life is if you always see the good things in every bad that happens. It is here I see myself how far I have come in the pursuit of a better purpose. It’s within these four years I realized I am worth something. It’s within these four years that I had all the “bests” of my life.
Within those four years, I’ve got the major gifts of my entire life. I fulfilled most of my weird bucket list. I was able to visit Makkah and Madinah. I’ve built beautiful relationships. I’ve learned more about my religion. I become a husband. I become my own boss.
Being an expat is not easy. I may have experienced the “worsts” while working in Kuwait but it doesn’t mean I have regretted coming here.
The truth is, wherever we go and whatever job we may have, there are always goods and bads. It’s entirely up to us how we keep the boat sailing.
I feel bad to my fellow OFWs who have or had the worst experiences of their lives while working here. Those who have the evilest of employers and the worst workmates. It’s sad to see them suffering. It breaks my heart.
As I bid farewell to my fellow OFWs, I wish and I always pray that that we will all be well. Remember that God is always watching us and all those who do us wrong will surely have to pay the consequences one day.
I know we all have a dream. That’s why we are here because we want to achieve something.
To be honest, I’m coming back home having zero in my pocket. What I have is a dream. A dream that I’ve been working on my entire life and I am certain that now is the time to roll up the curtain.
If you’re an OFW, like me, don’t be afraid to go home just because you have saved nothing in your pocket. If you feel like you’re not worth it anymore working here, maybe it’s time for you to move forward. Don’t get stuck. Don’t quarantine yourself on something you are not happy about.
Invest on something you are passionate about. Forget your stressful job. Start your own and one day you’ll say, “I was once an OFW and I will never be going back again.”
Eid Mubarak, beautiful people in all the earth. Have a blessed day and thank you for reading this long post. I’m certain that my last eid in kuwait is such so memorable.

#1. Find winning products It’s important to choose products that are highly salable online. Products that people are mostly interested with. Products that people can’t easily find in local stores, especially now that most of the stores are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. To do that, I recommend checking Amazon’s best seller page. This way, you’ll be able to understand what products people are usually buying online.
Other platforms to check what products are highly sold online are: Alibaba, AliExpress, Wish, and Ecomhunt. Choose at least five or more products. After choosing products, check if that product you chose is trending online. Check it by typing keywords related to that product on Google Trends. This way, you’ll know which products people are searching online. Choose products are reserve this for later.
#2. Choose a unique name for your store Choosing a name for your store is crucial as it affects your marketing in the future. Store names that are name appropriately can make a long way for your e-commerce success. Choose a name for your store that relates to the product you are selling. It should be unique and easy to remember.
Example, if you are selling kitchen gadgets, create a name that when people read it, they’ll know what you are selling even if they don’t see your products – say, KitchenKits or simply Kitchen Gadgets. Remember that your store name will also be the your website address if you choose to have an own domain. Let’s say kitchenkits.com.
#3. Create a Shopify account Creating a Shopify account is basic as elementary. Just go to Shopify website and create your account. From there, get familiarize how to configure your store and start creating. There hundreds of helpful videos on Youtube for you to go with.
#4. Import your products from AliExpress Now, take the product list that you’ve done in step 1. Go to Apps on Shopify and install Oberlo. From Oberlo, go to AliExpress and search your products. This part is tricky as you have to choose products from good suppliers. Tip: Select products that have high numbers of order. You can see it under product description on AliExpress.
After choosing your products, start importing it to your Shopify store. On Shopify store, configure your design. Don’t worry Shopify is very easy to design. You don’t need an experience in web design and development here as long as you know how to read.
#5. Launch your store and start selling! After you finished choosing and importing your products to your Shopify store, it’s now time to buy your domain name. This time, you need money for the domain and hosting for using the Shopify platform. Domain registration on Shopify is only 16$. For hosting they offer a minimum fee of 29$ per month. It doesn’t matter if your business is small or you own a large enterprise. The truth is, you need to scale up your game. Now, many people are asking, ‘Do I need a website for my business?’ In this post, I’ll be sharing with you 7 practical reasons why you need a website for your business.
So, you have probably read a lot about this for I suppose you are searching on this topic because you are confused about whether you need to have a website for your business or not. No worries, without further ado, here are the 7 super practical reasons why you need a website for your business. Here we go.
7 Practical Reasons Why You Need a Website for Your Business
1. Around 2.05 billion people worldwide purchase goods online
The growth of online shopping is simply impressive. The projections of Statista, a leading global business data platform, in the rise of eCommerce, online shoppers are expected to hit over 2 billion, this year, 2020. This number is so crazy. Why won’t you take of this market advantage?
The world’s population is expected to rise by around 8 billion by 2021. So, the 2 billion online shoppers make 26.28% of the world population. It means that one out of every four people you see or your friends is an online shopper. Yes?
2. Website creates confidence to your customers
Think about it. Would you trust a business without a website? Supposed you have social media pages – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin – but many people don’t just rely on their trust on these platforms. Especially when these platforms are a den of irrelevant information and fake news. A website breaks these norms.
The 1.8 billion websites shown in Statista data (from 1993 to 2019) are projected to surge at 2% by the end of 2022. Thousands of this websites are your competitors. This data is enough to convince business owners, like you, to settle your business in the digital arena.
In today’s digital-savvy consumers, businesses should take a leap to adapt to the evolving behavior of the buying market. For some uncertain reasons, many customers don’t just give a damn to products from businesses without a website. I have a friend who is addicted to online shopping and I asked him, “Do you buy from Instagram or anywhere else?” He said, “No. I always buy directly on the company’s website.”
3. Your business will show up in Google search
Today, everyone uses Google to search products or companies on the internet; and or pretty much everything. Let’s say, for instance, a friend recommended your product to another friend because it’s great but he forgot the name. The tendency is, that friend would type into Google about his possible guess about your company. The problem, you don’t have any business presence online, his search turns to 0 results. Instead, he found something similar. You lost the opportunity.
Study confirms that around 81% of online shoppers try to do some research before buying a product online. Seriously, I’m also doing this myself. I’m not an avid online buyer but when I do purchase online, I make sure I carefully studied the product including the company to see if it has a good reputation.
See? A website is not just a “www” and your business name with “.com.” It’s your face on the internet. It’s the virtual body and soul of your company where customers can find you when you’re far from them. It’s where customers can reach you when you’re literally out.
4. The Website delivers strong marketing messages
You can be pretty much of your own. You can control your own narratives with your website. In business, we can’t deny the fact that there are some people who want to malign the reputation of your business, especially in social media. Whether it’s about your product, your services, or your staff. How will you counteract these circumstances? Blogs.
By blogging, as I said, you can control your own narratives. You can tell the world your real stories. You can even create an empire of your customers who love your products or services.
Reports say that B2B companies that regularly blog receive around 68% more leads monthly than those companies that do not. A research found out that 57% of marketers gained customers through their blogs and you can only do blogs if you have a website.
5. Website promotes goodwill among your customers and prospects
Your website can be a bridge of a solid community within your market. There are many companies that have turned their website into a social machine where customers can create an online profile and interact with other customers. For owners, this serves as a strong signal to potential buyers.
With a website, you can position your self and stay in control of your brand. It acts as a channel of communication and it can help shape the online perception of your business in a way that other social media platforms cannot provide.
6. Website is not expensive and it’s not hard to have one
The reason why many business owners hesitate to get a website for their business is that they think it’s expensive and they think they need to have a degree in computer engineering to have one. This is wrong. In my previous blog, I wrote Small Businesses Think Branding is Expensive, It’s Wrong. I explained there why it’s wrong.
There are many web development companies that offer minimal cost for building your website. Some agencies offer flexible prices. And if you think of hiring a web developer, it’s not as high as you think. Most companies, especially in the US, Australia and Canada hire web developers remotely so they have the option to pay the cost according to their planned budget – hourly or full time.
For small businesses, you can start a standard plan at a hosting provider of your choice for as low as $3 per month. For medium to large enterprise, you can start with around $6-10 per month. However, these standard hosting plans are just basic. Many web hosting providers offer free domain along with your purchased plan. This is all you need for now.
If you need more advice on how to start a low-cost website, or if you’re confused about hosting plan and which provider is best for your business, please schedule your free assessment with me. Or email me directly at [email protected] I’d be happy to help you.
7. Website makes more money for your business
A website is not just the virtual face and body of your business, it’s a money-making machine. In the rise of eCommerce integration to business websites, it’s an addition to your actual store.
PipeCandy, a global research analytics platform that tracks eCommerce landscape, estimated in 2019 that there are between 2 million and 3 million e-commerce companies around the world. The statistics show that more and more companies are turning their websites to eCommerce to make more money apart from a typical store income.
In summary, the 7 practical reasons why you need a website for your business are:
Over 2 billion people are purchasing goods online every single day. It’s time to play the game.
Your website is the face of your business in the online world.
You need to show up on Google search results so when people key-in your business name you’re there.
A website is your marketing machine. If you spend on flyers and posters, spend to have a website.
Many customers do research about the product before they purchase, be ahead of your competitors.
It’s not expensive to have a website. There are countless options in the corner.
Your website can be a money-making machine with eCommerce.
Still not convinced if you need a website for your business? Here are some key points to think about:
We’re already in an era where cars can fly. Why are you still on black-and-white?
Business is a world of competition. You need to get ahead to win the game.
Every business needs marketing, a website is the most effective and the best tool to have one.
Maximize the power of the internet to leverage the potential of your business.
The website is not as expensive as you think, but you still need to invest.
Bonus: Simple Steps on How To Have a Website
Having a website for your business is very simple. You don’t need to have a computer degree to get one. The steps below are for business owners who have little to no knowledge about websites. Please follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Get ready with your domain name.
A domain name is usually the name of your business. It’s the name you’ll register (let’s talk about it later) to have a website address. For example, your business name is “Sylvia Clothing.” When you register this as a domain it will become “sylviaclothing.com” Domain is very important in getting a website for your business.
Step 2: Choose a web hosting plan.
What is a web hosting plan? Web hosting is a service that allows businesses, like yours, to create websites or web pages onto the internet. After you’ve purchased a web hosting plan, your website will be stored or hosted in high-end special computers called the server. Once hosted, your customers or the public can now view your website on the internet using your domain name.
Step 3: Buy the hosting and register your domain.
Doing this, you need to choose which provider is best for you. My personal recommendation is to go with this top 3 hosting providers, Godaddy, Bluehost, Hostgator. (Not affiliate links). Each of these providers have different hosting packages. It’s all up to you to choose which one is best for you.
Please note that these are only recommendations and I hold no affiliation to these links. Actually, you can also have the option to choose other hosting providers where you’re comfortable with. To register the domain and hosting plan, just follow the instructions stipulated with your chosen provider.
Step 4: Setup your website. And boom. You’re done!
This is the tricky part. But don’t worry, most hosting providers like Godaddy, has built-in website builder on all their packages. The builders are usually drag-and-drop that a sixth-grader can easily follow. All you have to do is just prepare first all the contents that you want to put on your website.
Checklist: What are the contents you need to prepare when setting up your website?
Your company logo. Prepare all necessary formats and sizes (JPEG, PNG recommended).
Your company profile. This is for the about age.
Photos and descriptions of products if you plan to set up a store.
Necessary contact details and address, including social media and others.
Others: Testimonials, FAQs, Employees’ Bio, Policies, etc. (Optional).
There you go, you’re all set and you already have the key as to why you need a website for your business!
I hope you find this post helpful and if you have something to add relevant to this topic please don’t hesitate to comment below. And also, suggestions for the next post are welcome. Small-time businesses and start-up entrepreneurs who have less knowledge about branding think it’s expensive and that they only settle to what they can do at the moment to upscale the business. For several years of experience working in corporate design and advertising, I’ve helped a lot of clients running small-time startup businesses. While for some it’s true that branding is expensive, I will tell you why it’s wrong.
Reason #1: Branding is not what you know it is
One of the few reasons why small-time entrepreneurs don’t give a shot to get branding for their business is because they don’t have enough knowledge of what is it all about and how it works. This is why it’s important to know and understand it’s basic fundamentals and how it impacts your business.
Now let’s define what is branding in its simplest form. Branding is a marketing practice that gives your business a unique identity. It’s the physical face and body of your business. To understand more, it’s the name, color, symbol, and all the elements that represent your business.
That’s the very basic definition of branding. There is much more to it but I will be explaining it in the other post. For now, let’s focus on the basic understanding so it can help you shape your business and eventually identify the best decision whether to hire someone do the branding for you or do it yourself.
Reason #2: Branding is not just about your logo
You have learned the simplest definition which I’ve mentioned above. But many people think that branding is about creating the best logo design and choosing the perfect color. For many, hiring someone to create a logo for them is a hard task. No.
Branding is everything you do that reflects your business – physical products, emotional impact on consumers, visual identity and so much more. It’s even the culture you’ve created in the workplace. All these can be for FREE or at a minimum cost. How?
A successful business is not about how beautiful is your logo. But it’s about how you tell your story. You have probably read a lot of success stories of businesses that boomed from scratch. And usually, those businesses have no straight-forward ideas of branding when it started. Neither has set goals nor hired a logo designer.
So, if you’re thinking that branding is expensive because hiring a designer is – you’re wrong. You can create your own logo without needing to pay someone. Your business will depend on how you tell your story to your customers.
Reason #3: Branding is not just for big-time business ONLY
When people hear “branding,” they automatically conclude it’s only for big businesses. Again, it’s wrong.
As I’ve said earlier, it’s about how you positioned your brand. It’s about how you tell your story. You don’t have to hire an expert to tell your story for you to sell your products. The best person to hire for your business is yourself. Because you know your business more than anyone else. You know your story more than anybody else. And hiring yourself is not expensive at all and you have all the power to explore and maximize your potential how you can improve yourself and your business.
Reason #4: Branding experts are not hard to find
So, you have figured out that you can’t do the branding for your business and have decided to hire someone for help. Because you think these people are experts and have spent years perfecting the craft they are expensive. Again, it’s wrong.
Experts are not hard to find if you reach out and connect with them. There are hundreds of people around you who can help you achieve your goals. Where to find these people – who are not expensive and have to create an impact on your brand?
If you don’t know someone from your family or friend, it’s easy to find someone especially today that everything is online. Sites like Upwork, Freelancer, or Linkedin have thousands of expert freelancers who can help you at a minimum cost.
Here are Acabo CC, we are helping entrepreneurs grow. If you are having difficulty in finding the right one to help you craft your brand, let us know. Our services are tailored to every business owner who wants to achieve something and create an impact on the community. Here’s a deal, your budget is not a real concern here. It’s about how strong are you to pursue your business and eventually grow.
Reason #5: Branding changes from time to time
Ok, because you think that branding changes as the time goes by, you’re bothered to spend again the next time once your brand needs retouch. Let’s be clear here. If you’re worried about your brand will be fading its sense in the long run then making a revamp is expensive, it’s wrong. Bear this in mind, once you have established a strong character of your brand in the first place, it’s hard to eliminate in the minds of your consumers.
Strong brands create a strong culture. And when there is culture, your brand blends in mutually. It has nothing to do with money, but culture does.
See how powerful branding can do to your business?
Again, it’s not about how much you spend on your logo. It’s about how you tell your story and how you build your own culture within your business. Building your brand culture is easy as long as you have your mindset for what you look forward to in the future. Which is why it’s important to outline your goals upon settling yourself in any type of business.
To recap, before you conclude that branding is expensive, please know that:
You should learn what is branding and how it impacts your business.
Branding is not just about a beautiful logo and amazing packaging. It’s about your story.
Branding is for all and not just for rich businessmen.
Experts are not hard to find. Learn to connect and socialize in online platforms and pitch your budget.
Branding changes over time but it doesn’t mean you need to spend much for a retouch.
